I know what it’s like to live as an alcoholic and addict. I remember the progression, the disappointments, the embarrassments, the fear, the hopelessness, the humiliation, the insanity, and the self- loathing.

I know what it’s like to live as a sober person. I remember the fear, the doubt, the hope, the progression, the hard work, the freedom, the joy, the moments, the Blessings, and especially the people.

After all this time, I hope I never forget any of it.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

Each day I ask God to help me live a certain way.

    He always does His part.

It’s up to me to hold up my end.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

I have more questions than answers when it comes to God. There are just so many things beyond my comprehension that I simply cannot explain.

I guess the view is always different from the driver’s seat, but I’m not driving.

So, I accept that the forces that have been directing our lives and causing so many coincidences is so great that I am not capable of understanding.

I believe that God is that force, carrying each of us in a way that our lives may be fulfilling if we seek Him.

I have found a practical use for my faith in God. That’s how I am sober today.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

When life throws difficulties my way, there is always a lesson or two to be learned. Sometimes the downstream effect isn’t noticed until long after the dust has settled.

Sometimes the only lesson is that my difficulty was intended for the benefit of someone else.

Sometimes it’s not all about me.

Sometimes God uses me as an instrument in the bigger picture.

God gets what God wants. I just have to be ok with that.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

Sometimes I try to help another person and things don’t work out the way I think they could have.

When I look beyond my own disappointment, I can see God’s Will in play.

It was God’s Will that I tried and failed. The other person’s failure is preparing them for something greater that isn’t meant to be right now.

    I’m ok. I’ll keep trying.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

If I had been judged and shunned when I finally asked for help, I may never have sought help again.

Most of us stop drinking and using because we are suffering.

We need to be shown compassion, not condemnation.

I must always remember the compassion shown towards me and pass it on to the next person.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

I used to have low self-esteem, complimented with a high opinion of myself.

    My self-centeredness drove my behaviors.

When I finally got honest with myself, I was able to see the truth.

I had a hole in my soul in the shape of God. Seeking God fills that hole – one day at a time.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

“We change at the speed of pain.”

Pain should not be my sole motivation to change.

I have a pretty good inventory of my character defects. Trying to move away from the person I used to be isn’t enough. That just helps me to avoid pain.

I must continue each day to try to move closer to the person I was meant to be, what God intended for me to be.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

Sometimes the only thing between me and my alcoholism is God.

In a frantic moment all the peace and serenity can go out the window. Clear-thinking soon follows.

Did I sincerely pray today? Did I take my recovery for granted? Have I decided to operate on self-will today?

Thinking that I can live this life without God is my first mistake.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.

    “You are not alone.”

I used to believe that no one else felt like I felt. I could be in a crowd of familiar faces and feel like an outsider.

I was uncomfortable in my own skin and used substances to numb those feelings.

When I finally met people who felt the same way, suddenly I wasn’t alone. They helped me to understand myself.

That’s why I keep showing up – to help the next person know that they are not alone.

God, please help me to be ok today. Thank You. Amen.
